Team Trae Young Class of 2025 star McKenzie Mathurin is headed to Ann Arbor.

At halftime of her Overtime Elite game on Wednesday night, McKenzie, who had reopened her recruitment earlier this summer, closed the door firmly, committing to The University of Michigan. There she will play for coach Kim Arico, who has guided the Wolverines to six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

“I have decided to commit to the University of Michigan,” McKenzie said. “I’m just so excited to be coached by coach [Kim] Arico. I know of the girls in the recruiting class for the freshmen coming up, so I’m excited to play with them and I also know some of the girls who are also committed to Michigan so I’m just so excited to build new relationships and just continue my basketball journey at Michigan.”

McKenzie re-opened her commitment in Late May, decommitting from Nebraska in the process. Dozens of offers poured in. But while McKenzie targeted an ACC or SEC school, she couldnt shake the feeling that she belonged at Michigan.

“When I first reopened my recruitment, my phone was blowing up with calls back-to-back-to-back,” she told 247 Sports. “Honestly, I don’t remember much of the conversations, but I remember Coach Arico and I remember how we talked about the game. Ever since then, Michigan has been at the back of my mind.”

She took an official visit to Michigan in early July that drove home that feeling she is meant to be in Ann Arbor.

“I went on my official and I had a great time. They checked all the boxes, the atmosphere was great and it was a family atmosphere. I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of,” she said. “I really wanted to just commit on the spot when I was there, but my parents kind of held me back for a little bit longer. I just knew – especially when I was on campus, I just had that feeling. This is where I belong.”
