Ja’Kobe Walter still has this summer with Team Trae Young to finish, as well a full high school season to play, but he has seen all he needed to from college scouts and coaches and made his college decision public on Wednesday. He’s going to be a Baylor Bear.

Getting the announcement out of the way now will allow Ja’Kobe to focus on continuing to improve his game and finishing out his high school education without the pressure of the decision weighing on him. Filled with joy, Ja’Kobe noted that getting the decision done is a relief.

“I decided to end my recruitment because at first it’s exciting but as time goes on it starts to become more difficult,” Walter told ESPN. “The recruiting process was starting to get repetitive.”

The five-star prospect, ranked in the Top 20 in the Class of 2023, had previously cut his list to four, with Texas, Auburn and Alabama also in the running. Ultimately, he decided to commit to Baylor, a school that has persistently pursued him for two years. In fact, his commitment to Baylor came two years to the minute that Baylor first made him an offer, and one year to the day he took his first college visit to the Waco, Texas campus.

“The winning history under coach (Scott) Drew and who he has put in the league,” he said. “He is a super high-energy guy. I have never seen him have a bad day. I like the way he builds confidence in his players.”
